Magnolia Tree at Kingsbury

Went to a Beatles tribute band show at the Kingsbury Hall in SLC and saw some gorgeous flowers on a magnolia tree. Used the handy Iphone to capture it and do a painting. Submitted it to the Springville Art Museum show, Spring Salon. Didn't get in the show this year (about 1,000 artists entered, only 200 got to show their work). Next year!

Sunset on the Great Salt Lake

Was driving home from the junior high school after a play practice Julia was in and saw an inspiring sight; a gorgeous sunset over the mountains near the Great Salt Lake. Had to pull over and take a photo of it with my iphone. Would like to learn how to make the layers more rich. This seems to have a watercolor feel to it. Fun to make. Welcome change of pace after doing the Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd piece.

Sunflower Power!

My cute sister Emily is having a birthday soon. I wanted to paint her favorite flower for her. It fits her personality, sunny and upbeat. Love it! Love HER! I'm having fun exploring with technique and style this time. Seeing what I can learn as I go. Cheers! Jen

Busy in the Studio

Here are some photos of our open studio session last Thursday. Richard is making good progress on his lilies. And Cherilyn is painting a Monet which is getting close to being finished. I started a painting on sunflowers.

Annie Henrie-Lunch & Learn at Deseret Book

I went the to Lunch & Learn at the Deseret Book in SLC last Friday and was able to meet Annie Henrie. She's a young artist, recently graduated from BYU (2010) with a BFA. She studied in Italy to learn to paint Renaissance style. She does inspiring work. Here is a piece that I brought home with me, that I love! I asked her if she would be willing to teach me sometime and she was willing. I'll keep you posted on what comes of that. Excited!
